Mind Wanderings

It has been a magnificent day in the San Francisco Bay Area. And the perfect way to close out such a magnificent day......listen to Damien Rice while watching the sunset.

Ps: If you dont know who Damuien Rice is........look him up.......utterly beautiful music.

random musings

Just listened to Slanted and Enchanted by Pavement for the first time in a while, and I am fully reminded why it is arguably one of the greatest albums of all. If you havent heard it, go track the album down, you will not be disappointed.

.....and the latest fast and the furiouse movie was hilariously terrible...the dialogue seemed like it was written by a moronic 14 year old boy.

Braid.....a classic

I just finished Braid for the PC, and the game is a work of art. It has an original heartrenching story (the ending is genius), inventive gameplay (harder then the SAT.....but a hell of a lot more fun and rewarding), and amazeing visuals and sound (the image below is my desktop right now, and I want to download the soundtrack). So load up Steam, download the game, and enjoy. Jonathan Blow, you are a visionary.

One Last Shane Post

I know you all may be getting tired of the Shane McConkey posts.....but its taking me a while to get over the loss of my childhood hero.

Here are the 5 things I learned from Shane

1. Farting if funny.
2. I rule and you suck.
3. Skiing is awesome.
4. Skiing with friends and loved ones on a powder day is the best feeling in the world.
5. A man with skies, a saucer, and some whiskey, has the ability to be anyones hero.

This says it all

Saucerboy gnarlshralped it! Shane McConkey 1969-2009

The Memorial Service

In celebration of Shane’s life, a gathering was held at the heart of Squaw Valley today. A lift line away from KT-22, in view of the tram face and headwall, stories and memories were shared. Very suiting for a man frequently spotted in these mountains and for someone who played such a role in our community. As J.T. Holmes put it, “He was the elder sibling of the Valley. He had the knowledge and the experience.” The flags waved at half mast and the tram was perched in view of the ceremony. With a crowd young and old, it was clear that he touched many lives and many walks of life. As his daughter, Ayla, danced beautifully near the podium, friends spoke about what Shane meant to them. Nearly every speaker claimed that Shane was their best friend. One of which also said he had a recent chat with Shane about death and Shane’s wish was that everyone celebrate and be happy. He wanted people to celebrate not only his life, but yours as well. He wants you to have fun, and that was evident at this gathering. Despite coming together during such a time, many laughs were had in his memory. Nearing the end of the gathering, after a moment in silence, Squaw Valley ski patrol let off a series of bombs, surely one of Shane’s favorite sounds waking up in Squaw on a powder day. Although Shane is physically not with us, he lives in each and every person who shares the passion for skiing, base jumping, humor, friends, and family. In the words of Trevor Peterson, “There comes a time when one must risk something or sit forever with one’s dreams.”
